MOLCONE® D is a silicone-based polymer (polydimethylsiloxane), widely recognized as Dimethicone. It is a clear, colourless and odorless liquid used in pharmaceutical formulations as an excipient and anti-foaming agent. It is used in pharmaceutical products to reduce foam formation and to assist in improving processing efficiency and product stability.

1 Appearance It occurs as a clear, colourless liquid of various viscosities.
2 Identification

(A) Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.
3 Solubility It is miscible with chloroform, with ether, with ethyl acetate, with methyl, ethyl ketone and with toluene; very slightly soluble in ethanol, but silicon dioxide remains as a residue in the solvents; practically insoluble in water and in methanol.
4 Specific Gravity Specified test.
5 Refractive Index Specified test
6 Acidity Not more than 0.1 ml is required.
7 Loss on Heating Specified test
8 Assay Not less than 97.0% and not more than 103.0%.

PACKAGING

MOLCONE® D is packed in HDPE Drum or IBC Packing having bar-coded label.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in tight containers.
