MOLCONE® S is a silicone-based (organosilicon) compound. It is also known as Simethicone. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as an excipient and antifoaming (processing) agent. MOLCONE® S used in oral pharmaceutical formulations as an anti-foaming agent to relieve symptoms associated with excess gas such as bloating, pressure and discomfort.

1 Description It occurs as a translucent, grey viscous liquid.

(C) The residue gives the reaction of silicates.
3 Solubility It is miscible with chloroform, with ether, with ethyl acetate, with methyl ethyl ketone and with toluene; very slightly soluble in ethanol, but silicon dioxide remains as a residue in the solvents; practically insoluble in water and in methanol.
4 Acidity Not more than 3.0 ml of 0.01 M sodium hydroxide is required to change the colour of the solution to blue.
5 Heavy metals Not more than 10 ppm.
6 Defoaming activity The defoaming activity time is not more than 15 seconds.
